Steve Byrnes

Steve found the passion and social justice activism he was seeking at IKAR Shabbat services and through the Minyan Tzedek Organizing Path. A writer by trade, he has also performed two one-man shows, one based on his experience as a gay dad. His volunteer involvements also include serving on the President’s Strategic Planning Committee at Reed College, coaching underserved LAUSD students on how get into college, teaching and serving on the U.S. board of “Spirituality for Kids”. His family founded an organization, S.A.M. (School Attendance Matters), which provides sanitary pads, underwear, and sex education for schoolgirls in Malawi. His daughters take the lead on this, while he supervises in the background.
