Keep it 100

Keep it 100

Our goal is 100% member participation in advocacy actions.

We will provide the actions. All you have to do is make the time.  Issue areas include Immigration, Housing, Criminal Justice Reform, Gun Violence Legislation, Sustainability, and Voter Rights. Look for the Keep it 100 logo in the emails from IKAR and be sure to click the link to let us know you participated!

We have inherited, and in some ways we have built, a world of immense human suffering and pain. What might we do but throw up our hands and say, ‘There’s absolutely nothing that we can do?’ And yet it’s exactly at this moment that we must recognize that change only comes when some courageous few people embark on a journey anyway, with no reasonable assurance of success.

– Rabbi Sharon Brous

We want every member of the IKAR community to join us in taking civic action throughout the year. Once a month, we publish Keep it 100 actions and invite you to participate. Please choose at least one action, and email [email protected] to let us know what you did!

THIS MONTH:

Help gather signatures for Schools & Communities First:

Despite being the 5th largest economy in the world, California’s schools rank in the bottom 10 percent in funding, nationally. Schools and Communities First, a measure we are seeking to place on the November 2020 ballot, will change that.

SCF will reclaim over $11 billion every year for California’s schools and local communities by closing a Proposition 13 loophole, bringing tax rates for commercial and industrial property owners up to 2020 levels, without affecting small businessowners, homeowners and renters. This small change will restore $11 billion every year to fund world-class schools and strengthen local services to lift up all Californians.

We are committed to gathering 500 signatures in hopes of getting SCF on the November ballot. Help us reach our goal!

Help get an accurate count of people experiencing homelessness in Los Angeles:

Every January, thousands of volunteers across Los Angeles County embark on a mission to count our homeless neighbors. This annual count provides a critical picture of community members experiencing homelessness within LA County to help our public agencies and service providers better direct resources.

The 2020 Greater Los Angeles Homeless Count needs you. No experience is necessary; you will be trained. The count is a safe and a meaningful way to engage in the movement to combat homelessness.
