IKAR Organizing

IKAR Organizing: finding hope as we build a more just society.

We are committed, in Rabbi Brous’ words, to reclaiming “the moral heart of our tradition.” We recognize that the Torah calls on each of us to stand up to injustice and to do our part in making our world more equitable and more sustainable. We envision a world not as it is, but as it could be. We bring members of the broader IKAR community together to fight for social justice at local, state, and national levels.

Join us for our Monthly Organizing meetings on the third Tuesday evening of every month.

We are partnering with with LA Voice and Everyone In to address housing issues in LA.

Criminal Justice Reform

We recently helped pass SB 392, the California Act to Save Lives, which restricts when police can use deadly force, and makes sure that police officers who kill unjustly can be held legally accountable for their actions.

KNOW YOUR REPS MEETINGS

IKAR Organizing launched our “Know Your Reps” campaign November 2017 with State Senator Ben Allen. Senator Allen (SD 25) represents the westside, from Hollywood to Santa Monica and the coastal South Bay.  Since then, we have been joined by Congressman Ted Lieu, City Attorney Mike Feuer, Congresswoman Karen Bass, and Congressman Adam Schiff–listen to the conversations here.

Join us in building relationships with our elected officials so we can make our voice heard from City Hall, to Sacramento, to Washington D.C. Check out our calendar for upcoming “Know Your Reps” sessions. You can also find out if upcoming reps are your representatives by checking the “Know Your Reps” card you got in your IKARd or click here.

A note on other social justice issues

As IKAR Organizing continues to work on multiple social justice issues, we continue to monitor the situation at our border, where immigrants are seeking asylum. As well, we remain committed to working with our partners in the fight to end gun violence once and for all. And, we will be organizing canvassing and other Get out the Vote activities for IKARites in the future. As opportunities for action and activism to support social justice issues arise, we will inform you through Keep it 100, so please watch for the emails.
