Rebecca Platt was first inspired to pursue professional Judaism during her years as a camper at Olin-Sang Ruby Union Institute, a Reform Jewish summer camp in Oconomowoc Wisconsin. At camp, Rebecca was exposed to passionate Jewish teachers and clergy who made Jewish learning not only academic but experiential and fun.
Rebecca followed her love of Jewish learning from camp to DePaul University in Chicago, where she received her B.A. in 2007, majoring in Religious Studies with a minor in Art History. She then enrolled at Jewish Theological Seminary in New York where she received her MA in Jewish Education in 2012. While at JTS, Rebecca also completed two years of cantorial training at the H.L. Miller Cantorial School. Upon graduation from JTS, Rebecca took her first job as Director of Education at Temple Emanuel in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Following two fantastic years in the South, Rebecca sought big city living again and moved to Los Angeles, where she served as Director of Education at Temple Judea from 2014 to 2017.
Rebecca has been a fan of IKAR since moving to Los Angeles in 2014, and she is beyond excited to join the IKAR team as Director of Education. Rebecca will also be completing her cantorial training at the Academy for Jewish Religion half-time while working at IKAR. Rebecca lives in West Hollywood with her husband Fred, a feature film editor, and her adorable cat Oscar.
