Tu B'Shevat Seder and Celebration
Driving Directions to Heavenly Pond Picnic Area in Franklin Canyon Park:
From the Valley:
Take the Ventura (101) Freeway to the Coldwater Canyon off-ramp.
Get off on Coldwater Canyon Drive, heading South.
Take Coldwater Canyon Drive south (up the mountain) to Mulholland Drive.
From the City:
Head north on Coldwater Canyon to Mulholland Drive
From the junction of Coldwater Canyon Drive and Mulholland Drive, make a 90 degree turn heading directly west onto Franklin Canyon Drive. You cannot see the street sign reading "Franklin Canyon Drive" until after you turn. You will see a sign reading "Road Closed 800 Feet", partially hidden by a tree. This is the park entrance.
The road passes briefly through a residential area then into the park. Stay on the paved surface about 0.7 miles to reach the Sooky Goldman Nature Center. On your right you will see a stop sign that says “photo enforced”. They mean it; BE SURE TO COME TO A FULL STOP or you will get a ticket. On your left you will see a sign that says:
Welcome to
William O. Douglas
Outdoor Classroom
Sooky Goldman Nature Center
Turn left and park in the large parking lot.
NOTE: There are a couple of small parking lots closer to the picnic area (see the map) and 3 parking spaces at the turnoff to the picnic area, but please use the large parking lot unless you are mobility impaired or are bringing LOTS of stuff.
Continue down the road on foot. It is a about a 6 minute walk with a slight rise. You will see a small red “restrooms” building on your right and a wishing well nearby. Turn right at the “restrooms” building and take the concrete path to the picnic area.
Parking is quite limited, so in the spirit of Tu B’Shvat and protecting the environment we are encouraging carpooling.
NOTE: Please print and follow these directions unless you know the way. Cell phones do NOT work in the park and GPS directions are unreliable.
